Remembering Gandhi

Indians remember Gandhi on Oct 2 (except  this year since it fell on a weekend). Indian politicians remember Gandhi on seeing Indian currency. Italian telecom remembered him with this commercial. It ends with these beautiful lines " Imagine the world today if he could have communicated like this . Telecom Italy. Communicating IS Living ".

Kurai Ondrum Illai by MS

Sitting idly at home, out of blue, I  remembered MF Husain's painting of M.S. Subbulakshmi amma . And then a quick youtube search on her got me 2 of my favourite songs - "Bhaja Govindam" and "Kurai ondrum illai". Out of the two I tend to like Kurai Ondrum Illai over Bhaja Govindam because of the pure tamil lyrics you'll encounter in that song. The song  itself, written by C. Rajagopalachari (remembered as Rajaji), is of a very recent origin and got popularized by M.S. singing this song at the United Nations in 1969. Ironically, this is the only composition of Rajaji which is famous in the classical music circles.

Movie Review: Thirakkatha (2008)

International Title: "Screenplay" Language: Malayalam Genre: Romance, Drama This is one of those few movies that'll  linger in your mind days after you had watched it.

Movie Review: The Karate Kid (2010)

Language: English Genre: Action, Drama I had to take my cousins out for the movie and the tickets were available for only two movies - one Telugu movie and this. My cousins and I chose to watch this movie since Jackie Chan starred in it. After the movie started, the first thought that ran in my mind was about the gender of the protagonist - he looked like a girl at some angles while the name sounded boyish. It was very disheartening to see Jackie relegated to the supporting role (even the title cards show Jackie's name after Jaden's). He looks quite old in this movie. I still remember him as the hero from my childhood days. We used to rent VCR and the video cassettes of his movies (it was the only way of watching his movies in those days) when all the cousins come home during holidays. Hmm good old days.

Apple Sucks

You'd be wondering why I say this when Apple is hogging the limelight for their IPAD and IPhone 4.0 OS releases. Before giving you any explanations, I want to say this again - APPLE sucks. I've been a proud owner of an IPod touch 2G for the last 14 months and I still love that device. So what's the problem?

Here Comes Another Bubble

I wanted to blog about this song (from Richter Scales) for long but somehow it slipped my mind every time. This song pokes fun at the proliferation of the web 2.0 companies and at the way the software industry works. The interesting part of the song is the lyrics which keeps you smiling till the end. If you are a software guy, you'll understand and enjoy this song. If not, you can still enjoy this peppy tune.

Conquered Web Services

Until last few months, I used to test Web Services. But for the last couple of months, Web Service was testing my patience.

1000 years of BigTemple

Coming of 2010 marks the 1000th anniversary of the construction of Brihadeeswarar Temple (commonly known as the Big Temple) in Thanjavur. Unlike the westerners who cherish their 100 year old monuments(!),  we Indians have a general apathy to anything related to history. Please don't brush this aside as yet another historical event.
